Solange - Cranes In The Sky

I have chosen this music video because it follows Andrew Goodwin's theory of the relationship between music and video. The first sequence of shots are cut on the beat to different locations, immediately this establishes a relationship between the music and the visuals. The constant change in location is emphasised with the repetition of the lyric 'away' this suggests that the video is a visual representation of her trying to escape something or someone. The wide shots of Solange in these locations takes the focus away from her and more on the composition of the frame, it is almost as if she becomes part of her surroundings, however, the use of high key lighting ensures she is always illuminated hence how she 'can not get away'.
