Notes for evaluation 4

I looked back over the process of making this music video to see what digital technology I used. Below is a summary of all the technology that I encountered over the duration of this project and what they were used for. These notes were then transferred to a vlog style video.

Complete Digipak and Magazine Advert

Above are the products that I have made as marketing tools to promote my music video. The key elements that are consistent throughout all three products are the font which is 'Bernard MT Condensed' as well as the performance shots of the artist playing the guitar to promote the artist's star image. The record label is also consistent as well as the black background to the typography.

Inspiration for Magazine Advert

I used the same sources from making my digipak to make the advert to maintain strong brand identity between the products. I wanted to make sure the look of the magazine advert is consistent with the CD cover so I made sure to keep the iconography and typography the same.

Inspiration behind Digipak

This is the final Digipak and the inspiration behind everything I did. I used a similar font to Leon Bridges 'Coming Home' Album because I felt the typography with serif lettering looked more old-fashioned which fits the genre perfectly. I liked the performance style photo of Lauryn Hills on her album cover because it emphasizes the star image, so I took a screenshot from when I was performing in our music video to create the same effect. The idea to use an image of my back for the back of the cover came from Alicia Keys 'Here' because I like the irony of showing your back on the back of the cover. The bold black boxed around the text was inspired by Rihanna's 'Russian Roulette' poster, I realised it helped to make the text easier to read on an image that has lots of colours so added it to my cover.

Comparing Digipaks

Option 1:
This cover seems very simples to me, the san serif font gives it a friendly effect which compliments the photo. However, it seems too childlike for a professional album cover.

Option 2:

I feel like this option has more status because the picture is formal and the font is more traditional which I find fitting for the genre.

After asking a few friends on Whatsapp almost everyone preferred option 2, some saying that 'It looks very professional'. Thanks to this feedback I will develop option 2 further.
