Storyboards for 'I Need A Dollar'

Location 1: The girls house, where we will show her daily routine. From waking up extremely early to rolling out of bed and having breakfast.
Location 2: Then we will show her journey to work as she walks to the train station and and gets a train

Location 3: Her workplace, we will show her doing her everyday tasks at work such as sleeping the shop floor and restocking shelves. We will also have some insert shots of a jar being gradually filled with money.
Location 4: These are all the shots from after the girl gets fired, we will be in various locations doing activities to raise money such as busking, working at the market and washing cars.

Narrative for 'I Need a Dollar'

The idea is to have a single protagonist throughout the music video. At the beginning of the video she will be working in a steady job with lots of labour to accompany the lyrics of the song at the beginning:

"Its been a long old troublesome road".

Then we plan on acting out the girl getting fired using the exact words from the song:

Boss - "I'm sorry we won't be needing your help no more"

Girl - "Please mister boss man I need this job more than you know"

[then the boss will give her her final 'paycheck' and send her on her way]

Unfortunately the rest of the song is very melancholy as he sings:

"Who can help me take away my sorrow"

"I had some good old buddy his name is whiskey and wine"

This is not the message we want to pass onto others, instead we decided to juxtapose the lyrics with positive ways to make make money for example busking, washing cars and cleaning windows etc. So the girl still needs money but she is doing active positive things to make her money rather than just sitting around moaning about not having any, like in the song.

I Need A Dollar - Aloe Blacc

This is the song we have decided to base our music video on, it is very similar to 'Better in Time' in the way that they are both soulful songs. However changing too 'I need a dollar' means that we will be changed our genre to Soul, which has similar conventions to hip hop which we have previously covered.

I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
Hey hey
Well I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
Hey hey
And I said I need dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
And if I share with you my story would you share your dollar with me

Bad times are comin and I reap what I don't sow
Hey hey
Well let me tell you somethin all that glitters ain't gold
Hey hey
It's been a long old trouble long old troublesome road
And I'm looking for somebody come and help me carry this load

[Bridge:]
I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
Hey hey
Well I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
Well I don't know if I'm walking on solid ground
Cause everything around me is falling down
And all I want - is for someone - to help me

I had a job but the boss man let me go
He said
I'm sorry but I won't be needing your help no more
I said
Please mister boss man I need this job more than you know
But he gave me my last paycheck and he sent me on out the door

[Bridge:]
Well I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
Hey hey
Said I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
Hey hey
And I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
And if I share with you my story would you share your dollar with me
Well I don't know if I'm walking on solid ground
Cause everything around me is crumbling down
And all I want is for someone to help me

What in the world am I gonna to do tomorrow
Is there someone whose dollar that I can borrow
Who can help me take away my sorrow
Maybe its inside the bottle
Maybe its inside the bottle
I had some good old buddy his names is whiskey and wine
Hey hey
And for my good old buddy I spent my last dime
Hey hey
My wine is good to me it helps me pass the time
And my good old buddy whiskey keeps me warmer than the sunshine
Hey Hey
Your mom of mayhem just a child has got his own
Hey Hey
If god has plans for me I hope it ain't - written in stone
Hey Hey
Because I've been working working myself down to the bone
And I swear on grandpas grave I'll be paid when I come home
Hey Hey

[Bridge:]
Well I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
Hey hey
Said need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
Hey hey
Well I need a dollar dollar, a dollar is what I need
And if I share with you my story would you share your dollar with me
Come on share your dollar with me
Go ahead share your dollar with me
Come on share your dollar give me your dollar
Share your dollar with me
Come on share your dollar with me

Filming Schedule - I Need A Dollar

These are the date we plan to film on:

Difficulties with our concept

After all our preparation, audience feedback and even a day filming we have decided to change our theme and song. The theme of domestic violence was a powerful message that would have been great to raise awareness for, however it was not a realistic target when it came to filming. We are currently looking for another song to do instead that we can make our own.
